Enjoy the beauty of the Black Hills, Badlands and more on a six-day, five-night trip with Kankakee Valley Broadcasting. Travel coordinator Ed Hasnerl has a few last-minute seats available for next month’s motorcoach trip to South Dakota. The bus will leave early Aug. 17 from Knox and return on the 22nd.
The first day’s itinerary includes a drive across the driftless plains of Illinois across the mighty Mississippi River into northern Iowa, with a stop at Little Brown Church in the Vale. The next day travelers will visit the World’s Only Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D. More than 3,000 bushels of corn are used to create the murals that decorate the exterior. The bus will also stop at the internationally famous Wall Drug Store, where coffee has is still five-cents a cup and ice water is free.
Other destinations on the trip are Badlands National Park, Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial. Travelers will also have an option to spend a day in historic Deadwood, near where the Kevin Costner movie “Dances with Wolves” was filmed or spend time at Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming. All guests will visit the “Dances with Wolves” movie set before enjoying the Fort Hays Chuckwagon Supper and Cowboy Music Show. A final stop on the journey home will be at the Pipestone National Monument in Minnesota.
