Counterfeit $100 bills have been passed recently at several LaPorte businesses, according to police. A clerk at the Family Dollar on east Lincolnway told officers a black woman presented a $100 bill for a small purchase of items between 8:30 and 9 p.m. last Thursday night. The next day the bank notified the business the bill was counterfeit.
Police also responded to Al’s Supermarket East on Thursday night. The store refused to take a $100 bill from a female customer because they could not authenticate it. The woman was reportedly seen getting into a black Pontiac Grand Am with tinted windows when she left the store.
On Friday, Aug. 7 a Fifth Third Bank representative told police they received four matching counterfeit $100 bills that were taken at both LaPorte Family Dollar stores, Advanced Auto Parts and the Dollar Tree.
