Monday, Aug. 3 marked WKVI morning show host Tom Berg’s five year anniversary at the Voice of the Valley. He celebrated it in a Chicago hospital. Oncologists at Cancer Treatment Center of America confirmed his diagnosis of cancer in his colon, liver, lungs, lymph nodes, lining of his abdomen and possibly his stomach. Seeing as they cannot cure it, it has been deemed terminal.
Tom has opted to undergo chemotherapy and had his first treatment yesterday. He also plans to live out items on his bucket list in the coming weeks. These include a visit to Las Vegas to stay at the Monte Carlo, see The Beatles® LOVE™ by Cirque du Soleil® and Penn and Teller, visit Freemont Street, the casinos and the Las Vegas Strip and take a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. He also wants to go to California to visit and tour the Rancho Obi-Wan, which features the largest personal collection of Star Wars collectibles in the world (we only thought Tom had a lot of Star Wars stuff!) and visit San Francisco to see Alcatraz, ride cable cars, cross the Golden Gate Bridge, drive down Lombard Street and play in the Pacific Ocean.
WKVI General Manager Lenny Dessauer has set up a GoFundMe page to help Tom live his dream. Visit http://www.gofundme.com/evm7vgh8 to contribute.
