The Knox Street Department wasted no time in adding a 10-foot alley between Portland and Bower Streets. The city council approved the project Tuesday night, and street superintendent Jeff Borg and his crew did the work on Thursday.
They graded, leveled and laid gravel Thursday. The road had been an unofficial cut-through for several years but was not maintained by the city. It comes out between houses at 709 and 801 Bower Street, across from the north property line of Knox Middle School. Property owner Steve Dodge brought the issue to the city’s attention. Council members met briefly in the alley prior to their Tuesday night meeting at city hall and agreed to a route to allow several large oak trees to remain standing.
