The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department was seeking information on the whereabouts of an inmate who allegedly escaped from custody on Saturday.
29-year-old Natasha Peters was granted a furlough to carry-out birth on what was described as a high risk pregnancy on Monday, August 24th. She was staying at South Bend Memorial Hospital during the incident and was slated to return to the jail on Sunday.
According to information released by the department, Peters was incarcerated after she allegedly committed an armed robbery in Michigan City. At some point during her stay in the hospital, Peters is thought to have fled. Investigators were working with hospital security to determine the circumstances surrounding her alleged escape.
Peters was located around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon by Michigan City Police following an anonymous tip from a citizen. Additional criminal charges will be filed in the case.
