Nominations are now open for inclusion on the list of South Shore Legends to be honored on the Wall of Legends at the South Shore Convention & Visitors Authority for 2015. Nominees must have “imprinted the world” with accomplishments that resonate in and beyond Northwest Indiana. Individuals may have achieved notoriety here or elsewhere, and awards may be awarded posthumously.
They may now live outside the seven-county area, which is comprised of Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Porter, Pulaski and Starke Counties .
Nominees must demonstrate the “pillars” of Exploration or Courage, Creativity or Innovation. They are regarded as trailblazers whose personal conduct serves as an example for others. Typically their contributions have been made in past years. Starke County’s own World War II Medal of Honor recipient, PFC Frank Ono, was inducted last year along with Apollo 8 Commander Frank Borman and foot care innovator Dr. William M. Scholl, who was born in LaPorte.
New legends will be inducted during a Dec. 17th ceremony at the Indiana Welcome Center. Nominations must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Sept. 8th to the South Shore CVA, 7770 Corinne Drive, Hammond. Multiple individuals can be nominated in one nomination. To obtain a nomination form, contact John Davies, founder and coordinator, Wall of Legends Project, via jdavies8@ivytech.edu.
