Though Winamac students returned to school on Wednesday, the town will notice within the next few weeks construction will still be taking place for the Safe Routes to School project. Due to incorrect ADA slopes being installed in the sidewalks, they must be replaced. Yards affected by the sidewalk construction will also be fixed.
This matter was discussed during the Winamac Town Council meeting on Monday. The Council also received paving bids for the project. Two bids were received: one from Central Paving for $52,607 and the other from E&B Paving for $48,339.31. The council members unanimously motioned to allow Town Manager Brad Zellers to take the bids under advisement and accept whichever one he believes to be the best. His official decision will be announced Monday, August 17 during the scheduled budget meeting.
Aside from that project, The Council spoke about the town water town. Council President Kenneth McFarland wishes to find someone to donate their time to paint a mural on the tower. However, the look of the tower is not its biggest issue. There is mold on the water tower and a company has been found that will do the work for $4,900. The treatment will make it so that no mold will grow on the tower for approximately 5 years.
