Unemployment in Starke County declined slightly from July to August, according to the latest job numbers released by the state. All but one county saw decreases in unemployment rates. Starke County dropped from 5.8 to 5.5 percent. That’s still higher than the state average unemployment of 4.6 percent or the national 5.1 percent jobless figure.
Pulaski County saw the steepest area decline from July to August, with a half-percent drop in the jobless rate taking the county to 3.8 percent. Marshall has the lowest rate of counties in the immediate area at 3.7 percent. LaPorte County is the highest at 5.7 percent. That still represents a slight decrease from July.
