The Knox City Council approved a loan of money from the city’s share of the county economic development income tax (CEDIT) fund to cover costs of trying to clean up the city. Knox received a Blight Elimination Grant from the state to purchase vacant, dilapidated and condemned homes from willing sellers and is in the process of doing so.
The city’s share of the grant match is $18,000. However, all of the purchases and demolition need to be done before the state will pay the city back. In order to ensure the projects are finished successfully, the city is using $129,000 in CEDIT funds, which will be reimbursed once the final paperwork is submitted to the state.
