The Pulaski County Council voted to implement a local option income tax during its meeting Monday.
The tax is designed to raise money for spending on public safety within the county. Council president Jay Sullivan says it will help make up a shortfall in the budget, “The county has seen a decrease in about $2 million dollars in the property tax rolls, and we implemented this tax to gain about a fourth of that back because we did need some money; we were very, very short.”
After a brief public hearing, the council passed the ordinance, with two members opposing it.
