Members of Little Dove Baptist Church in Toto are raising money and donations for a county-wide children’s ministry this weekend. They’re hosting a rock-a-thon tomorrow from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Pastor Alvin Allen says all sponsored participants will keep their chairs in motion, with help from subs if they need to take a break, for eight hours.
All proceeds and donated items will be given to the Kid’s Closet Ministry at North Judson United Methodist Church. They collect new and gently used children’s clothes, shoes, coats, toothbrushes and other personal hygiene items and give them to children throughout the county who are referred to them.
Allen says spectators are welcome to stop by the church at any time during rock-a-thon. In addition to money he says they’re also collecting new coats, hats, gloves and scarves for Kid’s Closet.
“We don’t want the hand-me-downs. We want them to have nice stuff,” Allen said. Church members are also taking donations in case a client of the ministry needs something besides a coat or gloves.
He adds it’s important for churches throughout the community to help one another.
“The Bible says ‘One Lord, one faith, one baptism, are we all baptized into one body,’ so if you’re Christian it’s not what’s above the door, it’s what’s in your heart. So to me that’s the definition of a Christian.”
Kid’s Closet provides for Starke County children through age 17.
