You’ve heard about Black Friday and likely Small Business Saturday, but what about Giving Tuesday?
It’s in its fourth year and attempts to use the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to encourage philanthropy. This year, Giving Tuesday will take place December 1st.
The Starke County Community Foundation is participating by hosting an open house throughout the day. According to SCCF Director of Development Sarah Origer, Giving Tuesday is a good way to think about local charities and the work they perform throughout the year.
During the Community Foundation’s Open House, a donation of $1 to any community charitable fund will be matched by the Lilly Endowment. Those monies are applied to unrestricted funds and can be used to address local needs.
Origer says that by hosting the open house, giving to charity can become a festive experience.
