The recent snowfall was no match for the new City of Knox plow truck. Street Superintendent Jeff Borg told the board of works last week it handled well and was able to plow the streets without any mechanical problems.
He did note abandoned cars parked alongside city streets did pose a problem when it came to clearing roadways. Most of the snow that fell the weekend before Thanksgiving had melted by the time the board of works met on Wednesday. However Borg noted a few spots where cars are still covered in snow or it is piled up around the vehicle.
City officials say this not only hinders snow removal, it is also an eyesore. Police officers can ticket abandoned vehicles and can also have them towed at the owner’s expense.
