One area county has decided to move forward with designating themselves as a vote center county.
During Monday night’s Pulaski County Commissioners meeting, the item was considered following the recommendation of the county’s Election Board. Pulaski County has been working with 12 voting locations with boundaries that indicate where a resident can vote.
Commissioner Terry Young says this is a positive step.
“In years past, we had to go around and make sure we were in line with ADA. It was a mess,” says Young. “This is good for everybody.”
Under the vote center model, the number of voting sites can potentially be reduced. Pulaski County falls under that description, now allowing voting to take place in five locations.
According to the discussion, voting sites in Francesville, Medaryville, Monterey, Star City, Winamac and the Pulaski County Highway Department will be available. Despite some hesitation from the Pulaski County Council the previous week, the Commissioners were prepared to move forward with a vote.
Under the new model, residents of Pulaski County may cast a ballot at any one of the physical polling locations.
The Commissioners approved the vote center resolution, unanimously.
