Winamac residents can learn more about efforts to construct a new swimming pool at the Pulaski County Family YMCA during a meeting this evening. Town Councilwoman Judy Heater is coordinating the 7 p.m. session at the Winamac Volunteer Fire Department on Main Street.
She says matching grant funds are available from the Community Foundation of Pulaski County through March 31, 2016 to help with the construction cost. Some individuals have also expressed an interest in donating to the project, according to Heater, and there are also other grants available.
The Winamac Town Council has allocated up to $5,000 to have plans for a pool drawn up. Heater notes it will take the entire community to make a swimming pool a reality again.
The pool at the Y was last opened in 2013 due to the need for extensive, costly repairs to bring it up to code. The council solicited bids in 2014 for a new pool but ultimately rejected them due to the nearly $600,000 estimated cost and lack of funds to move forward.
