Area Counties Report Low October Unemployment

  
 

Starke County’s October unemployment rate is holding steady at 5 percent. That’s unchanged from September, when it hit its lowest point in eight years. It’s slightly higher than the state rate of 4.4 percent but equal to the national unemployment rate for October.

Of surrounding counties, Marshall recorded the lowest October unemployment rate at 3.6 percent. Pulaski County is also below the state average at 3.8 percent. LaPorte County is slightly higher at 5.3 percent for October.

Statewide 85 counties saw increases in unemployment from September to October, five – including Starke – were unchanged, and two posted slight declines.
