Kankakee Valley REMC crews are in for another long day as they work to restore power to members affected by Monday’s storms.
As of 7:45 a.m., 800 of the 990 reported outages were in LaPorte County. Spokeswoman Amanda Steeb says that’s due to a transmission outage affecting the Hanna metering point. She says broken poles and downed power lines are still causing outages.
KVREMC crews worked through the night to make repairs. Steeb notes an ice storm’s impact is hard to predict. She says yesterday’s quick accumulation of ice sticking to wires caused them to sag and break. The repairs took additional time due to the significance of the damage.
Additional crews from neighboring cooperatives will be brought in to assist with repairs. Steeb hopes to have restoration times available later today. Visit Kankakee Valley REMC outage viewer for the latest outage information.
