Starke County officials need to slash half a million dollars from the county’s 2016 budget after receiving their final report from the state.
Auditor Kay Chaffins shared that news with the council and commissioners last night during a previously scheduled meeting to prioritize expenditures from the county economic development income tax fund.
They’re meeting again on Monday, Dec. 21 at 3 p.m. to discuss what can be cut and make final decisions. Meanwhile, the council has asked Chaffins to go through the budget and come up with a list of recommendations and to send a notice to department heads asking them to make spending cuts as well.
