The deadline to nominate torch-bearers to take part in Indiana’s Bicentennial Celebration is fast approaching.
Members of the Bicentennial Committee of Starke County say the torch is scheduled to travel through the local area on October 7th. Stops for the torch will include Bass Lake, North Judson, and Wythogan Park in Knox.
Months of planning has gone into organizing the 200th anniversary at the state and local levels. As part of that preparation, nominations are being accepted for local residents that are able to carry the bicentennial torch throughout the county.
Committee members say that nominees are expected to demonstrate exceptional public service, excellence in their profession, heroism, or leadership in the community. Several other requirements must be met, including the minimum age of 14 of the honoree. Individuals may also not nominate themselves.
Nominees are being accepted until January 31st. An announcement for the participants will be determined by February 16th.
