Two Knox residents are in critical condition after a single vehicle crash in LaPorte County, Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred in the 5700 West block of County Road 800 South – that’s about one mile west of Union Mills. According to details provided by the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department, a gray SUV was traveling westbound on County Road 800 South when it left the roadway and struck a tree.
The driver, identified as 30-year-old Catherine Gummalauskas, was able to free herself from the vehicle. The passenger, 24-year-old William Baugh, was pinned inside the car and had to be extricated – a feat that took nearly 30 minutes.
Both were transported by ambulance from the scene. According to a press release, a domestic disturbance may have allegedly led to the accident.
No criminal charges are anticipated in the case.
