An agenda item for Monday’s Knox School Board meeting, non-renewal of Knox High School Assistant Principal David Miller’s contract, was removed from the agenda, when the board convened.
Although the non-renewal item was removed for board consideration Monday night, many in a room packed with school patrons, spoke in support of Mr. Miller’s retention. Speakers included parents, teachers, local and from other school districts, and Knox Mayor Dennis Estok.
No action was taken and no responses given as is board meeting procedure on public comments. All statements were taken under advisement.
Superintendent A.J. Gappa briefly discussed the distribution of Teacher Performance Grant monies and the 2016-2017 school calendar. The calendar was approved, with students scheduled to report for 2016 fall classes August 4th. June 1, 2017 is the final day of classes. Commencement is scheduled for June 9, 2017.
Several field trip and fund raiser requests were approved.
A request was made by Shelly Kemble for the board to look again into the continuing controversy over withheld PTO funds, said to be $15-thousand or more.
Tonight the Knox Elementary School will host a Kindergarten “family night.” Families will have an opportunity to meet the teachers, learn about kindergarten skills, tour the building and eat dinner in the school cafeteria. It begins at 6 p.m.
