The demolition of Winamac’s Long Branch Hotel required a bit of a change in plans from the town. Pulaski County had planned to provide trucks to haul away debris, while the town agreed to take care of the actual demolition work.
However, Winamac Town Manager Brad Zellers says the county had experienced problems with some of its trucks and wasn’t able to provide any. Instead, the town hired K. R. Denth Trucking from Lynwood, Illinois to do the work for a cost of $2,070. On Monday, the Town Council unanimously agreed to pay the bill for the hauling work.
During Monday’s meeting, Zellers told the council the Iris-Elm Garden Club had expressed interest in planting wildflowers at the site. Council members asked for more information before moving ahead with the request. Zellers has previously talked about planting grass on the site and using it as a welcome area for the trail.
