Starke County EMS Director Keith Emigh hopes to have the 2009 Ford ambulance based at Grovertown back on the road next week. The diesel rig is at Jim Dobson Ford in Winamac getting a new motor installed.
The truck has been plagued with mechanical problems. The council opted to replace the motor and try to squeeze another few years of use out of it rather than spend upwards of $100,000 for a new chassis.
Emigh told the Starke County Commissioners Monday night the repair cost is estimated at $17,000. The mechanic will check the transmission after the new motor is in. He’s already recommended only Ford parts be used for any future maintenance and repairs to the truck.
