Air bags and seatbelts are credited with saving a Valparaiso man from serious injury when his Toyota Prius rear-ended a garbage truck this morning in LaPorte. The crash happened around 6 a.m. on State Road 2 near the LaPorte County Fairgrounds, according to officials with the sheriff’s department. The car sustained major damage, but the driver, 57-year-old Eugene Ritter, was able to walk away. He refused medical treatment.
