The Starke County Highway Department is looking to replace the fire prevention system at the highway garage. Superintendent Rik Ritzler told the county commissioners Monday the alarms there are the original ones that were put in when the building was new 30 years ago. He says money from the department’s fuel savings will cover the cost of the upgrade. Right now he’s getting bids for the work, which he hopes to have done as soon as possible.
Ritzler also told the commissioners ADT recently updated the building’s alarm system at no cost to the county.
