Sections of a road considered a bit unsafe will be receiving an upgrade in the near future.
Engineers with the Indiana Department of Transportation held a meeting with representatives of a private school in LaPorte County called the Renaissance Academy, and the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department. The gathering was held following a multi-car pileup on the road. Several were reported injured in the incident.
According to State Representative Tom Dermody that section of U.S. 20 is heavily trafficked, but steps are being taken to raise the awareness of local motorists.
The roadway near the school is a hotspot for traffic related incidents. LaPorte County authorities were investigating a separate accident at the site when the pileup occurred earlier this month.
According to Dermody’s offices, additional signage, roadway painting, and flashing lights will be included. The timing of the lights will be adjusted depending on the time of day.
INDOT also says it plans to create a left turn lane next year. That’s a change from its original plans to create a left turn lane in 2018 at the site of the private school.
