The Winamac Community Pool Committee’s first fundraiser is this morning. They’re having a country breakfast at the Winamac Knights of Columbus Hall, starting at 7 a.m. EST and going until at least 10.
They’re looking to raise money toward the construction cost for a new swimming pool. Matching funds are available from the Pulaski County Community Foundation through March 31st of this year. Winamac Councilwoman Judy Heater is spearheading the project and says efforts are going well. Other grants are also available.
The pool at the Y was last opened in 2013 due to the need for extensive, costly repairs to bring it up to code. The council solicited bids in 2014 for a new pool but ultimately rejected them due to the nearly $600,000 estimated cost and lack of funds to move forward.
