Armed Robbery at LaPorte Verizon Store Leads to Car Chase

LaPorte Police are investigating following a robbery at a Verizon store on Wednesday evening.

The suspects, described as two black males, entered the location in the 1400 block of E. Lincolnway in LaPorte around 10:20 p.m. The suspects were asking about phones when one of them allegedly displayed a handgun. The weapon was pointed at the Clerk according to the report.

One of the suspects then proceeded to demand the phones in the store according to witnesses, and removed cash from the register. Both suspects fled on foot through a back door according to investigators.

Officers were able to find the suspect vehicle, a 2016 Ford Explorer, performing a traffic stop. As authorities approached the vehicle, it sped off, leading officers on a high speed chase into Michigan. The vehicle was lost in the New Buffalo area.

Estimates of the losses have not been determined by police. Employees at the store advised similar robberies have been recently reported at other Verizon stores.

An investigation is ongoing.
