The Starke County Historical Society and the Starke County Historian met Friday with representatives from DLZ Architecture and Planning of South Bend to review the renovation plans for the County Courthouse. The group reviewed the projected work of each floor and the exterior of the historic 100+-year old courthouse.
The review included guidelines that “the historical character (of the courthouse) will be maintained and preserved.”
Included in the renovation work is the installation of security equipment at the main entrance, which will be moved to the west side of the building. A new sidewalk will encircle the building. Broken windows will be replaced, the exterior will be tuck pointed and some departments will be relocated.
Also attending the meeting were Commissioner Kathy Norem, Auditor Kay Chaffins, Clerk Vickey Cooley and the courthouse maintenance staff.
