A South Bend man has been arrested by authorities following an investigation into the shooting of a LaPorte woman.
47-year-old Thomas Hardy is facing two counts of Attempted Murder, and charges of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. His arrest follows a Monday incident in the 1300 block of Wright Avenue in LaPorte. Officers responded after witnesses described shots being fired in the area. The victim was located in the back yard bleeding, but conscious.
Follow-up investigations pointed to Hardy as a prime suspect.
In order to locate their suspect, LaPorte Police requested assistance from the Fugitive Apprehension Street Team. His last known residence was thought to be somewhere in St. Joseph or Elkhart counties.
Hardy was found on Thursday inside a vehicle at a South Bend apartment complex. The vehicle in which he was traveling was previously reported stolen, according to a press release.
He was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on the felony charges.
The victim in the shooting incident was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital where she remains in critical, but stable, condition.
