The Knox Community School Corporation’s music program is getting some national recognition. The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation has included Knox on this year’s list of the Best Communities for Music Education.
The designation seeks to recognize school corporations for their efforts to provide music education to all students. The foundation compiled the Best Communities list with the help of researchers at the University of Kansas. They considered school corporations’ funding, facilities, graduation requirements, and participation in music classes.
According to a press release from Knox Community Schools, the designation is especially significant this year, since music and arts education are emphasized in the recently-adopted Every Student Succeeds Act. Nearly 500 school corporations nationwide were included on this year’s Best Communities for Music Education list. This is the second time the Knox Community School Corporation has made the list.
