The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help to locate a driver who struck and killed a woman on U.S. 421 near Wanatah. Officers responded to a report of a woman lying in a ditch on the east side of the highway just north of U.S. 30 around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. She was dead, after apparently being hit by a vehicle.
Detectives are working with the LaPorte County Coroner’s Office to identify the woman. She did not have any identification but is believed to be from the Porter County area. An autopsy will be conducted Thursday morning.
Officials say no one has come forward to claim responsibility for striking the woman. Detectives believe she was hit between 1:55 and 2:15 p.m. Wednesday. Anyone who may have seen a white female walking in the Wanatah area Wednesday afternoon or any vehicles stopped on U.S. 421 north of U.S. 30 during that time frame is asked to contact the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 219-326-7700 extension 2443 or 2539.
