Hamlet residents are reminded not to flush disposable wipes or undergarments down their toilets or dispose of grease in their sinks. Doing so clogs the town’s sewer lines and creates more work for the maintenance department.
The Knox Wastewater Treatment Department recently jetted the line on Davis Street for the town to clear problems. Officials say it hadn’t been done for two or three years and was overdue to be cleaned out. They note many products that say they can be flushed actually should not be put into the sewer system because of the problems they create.
A reminder will be placed on future water bills. The town may also see that the lines are jetted more frequently.
