Knox residents will soon have new curbside recycling receptacles. The city council this week agreed to switch from open 18-gallon totes to 65-gallon wheeled containers with lids.
They will be serviced every other week by Waste Management. A schedule has yet to be determined. The city polled residents as to their preference, and the larger containers were a two-to-one favorite.
Vendor Waste Management will provide them at no cost to the city for the first year as part of a contract extension. Next year the cost will go up 33-cents each. A representative from Waste Management told the council the company is making a $60,000 capital investment in the community.
Information about what types of items can be recycled will be included with the carts as a refresher for residents.
