An accident in LaPorte County sent several people to the hospital on Sunday.
The call was reported to State Police just after 3:15 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-94 just west of the LaPorte exit. According to investigators, a 2012 Mercedes-Benz driven by 21-year-old Sanimir Ekic of Kentwood, Michigan was allegedly driving aggressively.
Traffic slowed on the interstate, causing Ekic’s vehicle to allegedly hit a 2012 Subarau SUV around the 38 mile marker in the left lane. The impact caused the Subaru to spin out and strike a Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was in the process of slowing. The driver of the motorcycle was thrown into the windshield of the Subaru.
All of the drivers were taken to Saint Anthony’s hospital. Ekic was later transferred to South Bend for additional treatment to a serious leg injury.
Indiana State Police say traffic was closed for about 30 minutes in all lanes. The roadway was fully opened about an hour after the crash occurred.
Ekic was cited for traveling too fast. Further charges may be pending, according to investigators.
