The Town of North Judson is looking to crack down on unsafe building violations. During Tuesday’s town council meeting, it was reported that a verbal notice was given last week to the owner of one property deemed to be in need of repairs.
Meanwhile, council president Wendy Hoppe is looking for some outside help to deal with non-compliant buildings. She notes that other communities have gotten grant funding for their efforts. “They have just received $159,000 to Pulaski County, to the Town of Winamac, to get rid of abandoned and uninhabitable buildings,” she said. “I’m going to contact Winamac, and see how they went about it, because he said that there was a lot of funding from the state in this grant. So I’m going to research it and see what we have to do in Judson here to get some help, so we can put some teeth into our unsafe [building ordinance].”
The City of Knox is also in the middle of its own blight elimination program, with funding help from the state.
