The low bid to replace a bridge over Bogus Run in Starke County came in $35,000 under estimates, according to Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler. The county received four bids for the project on 250 West south of Toto Road. They were opened during Monday night’s commissioners meeting.
The project includes a longer guardrail, widening of the bridge from 22.5 to 28 feet to accommodate farm equipment and epoxy coating the bridge pilings to extend their life.
The commissioners accepted the low bid from Mishawaka-based Northern Indiana Construction Company, Inc., for $282,863.50. Work is scheduled to begin in September.
