The Town of Culver is waiting in anticipation for the announcement of the winner of this year’s Stellar Communities designation.

During Tuesday night’s Culver Town Council meeting, a review of the presentation given in July to representatives of the state was had. Stellar Communities designates a community with priority grant funding for projects planned out over the course of several years with local matching dollars considered in the decisions.

Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist says he may have to avoid public places to avoid spilling the beans.

“I don’t know if we’ll be able to make it public until the 18th, but we’ll find out,” says Leist.

Culver is one of three finalists for the designation in the small population categories and anticipates major investment following state grant applications over the next year or so to help fund the projects.

Local representatives have spoken highly of Culver’s presentation to the state. Stellar Communities is operated through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs and has brought major grant dollars to winners in past years.

Culver Town Council President Ginny Bess Munroe says everyone was feeling confident after the presentation.

“If we don’t win, we have a great team at the table to move us forward next year,” says Munroe. “We would definitely go for it again, I think, there’s no doubt what we’re capable of.”

Culver will officially learn the results along with the rest of the state of August 18th. Town officials, however, say they will likely receive a phone call alerting them to the winner at the end of this week.
