The Indiana Department of Transportation says they are shutting down a section of State Road 2 in LaPorte County.
The reason behind the closure is due to the Pyrotechnic Guild International’s “Fire in the Sky” Weeklong Convention. The closure will effect the area between County Road 400 West and the entrance to the LaPorte County Small Animal Shelter next to the fairgrounds.
During the closure, westbound traffic will be detoured south on State Road 39, west on U.S. 6, north on U.S. 421, and back to State Road 2. Eastbound traffic will reverse the order during their travels.
The road closure will take place August 4th through August 12th.
The La Porte County Commission has passed an emergency ordinance prohibiting parking along all of the county roads surrounding the fairgrounds. Some of the roads included in the parking restriction include, but are not limited to, Joliet Road, CR 400 W, CR 500 W, Small Road, 18th Street, Zigler Road, Nursery Road, Mayflower Road, Grand Avenue and all roads in the Westwood and Sunnyside subdivisions. The Sheriff’s Office has scheduled extra patrol in these areas and will issue citations to violators.
