Code enforcement efforts by the City of Knox have hit a bit of a snag. Building inspector Bruce Williams has had no success contacting the owner of the house at 202 N. Pearl Street. During their June 22nd meeting, the Knox Board of Works gave him a maximum of 60 days to make significant interior and exterior repairs to the property. Williams did not attend last week’s board of works meeting. Members discussed the issue and decided the next step is to obtain an inspection warrant to check the home’s condition before proceeding with fines and said the city police department can be used to gain access if necessary.
A second demolition order for the vacant home at 6 N. Pearl Street was also upheld by the board of works in June. At that time Williams said he had tried without success to track down the order. City officials have since learned an out-of-state resident purchased the property at tax sale and will soon be obtaining a deed for the property. She’s asked the city to delay enforcement until she completes that process. The board of works agreed to do so and asked city attorney Leslie Baker to contact her.
