The Winamac Park Board is ready for a fifth member. That’s what park board member and town manager Brad Zellers told the Winamac Town Council last week.
Zellers said the board’s current configuration may lead to challenges with open meeting policies if two members are present outside of an advertised board meeting. “With the four, it works, but if, let’s just say, [Park Board President] Courtney [Poor] wants to come in the office and talk, that’s a quorum; we can’t do that,” Zellers said.
When council members first set up the park board earlier this year, some of them expressed concern about having an even number of members. In the end, they decided to limit the park board to four members initially, since any additional ones would have had to be appointed by either the Pulaski County Public Library Board or the Eastern Pulaski School Board, not the town council.
But now the Winamac Town Council has agreed to allow the library board to appoint a fifth member. The library board is expected to discuss the matter when it meets on Wednesday, September 28 at 4:15 p.m.
