Work could begin this week on the renovations to the former Starke County Jail and the courthouse. The Starke County Commissioners and Building Corporation are meeting jointly at 6 p.m. to accept, approve and award pricing bids for the projects. They were opened during last week’s county commissioners meeting and taken under advisement.
Plans call for the old jail to be turned into office and program space for Starke County Community Corrections and the probation department. Purdue Extension will also move from the courthouse into the renovated jail building.
The first and second floors of the courthouse are being reconfigured and modernized with a single point of entry for patrons. The prosecutor’s office is moving into the courthouse, and the clerk’s office space on the second floor will be set up differently.
Tonight’s meeting will take place in the meeting room at the annex building.
