A few academic offerings were up for discussion during Thursday’s West Central School Board meeting.
Superintendent Don Street says several honors math courses were introduced last year, including honors versions of Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. Now, Street says the grading scale has been brought in line with other honors classes. “Currently, several of our honors courses, especially in Language Arts and AP, are weighted,” he explains. “So our board gave approval to have our honors mathematics courses and Precalculus to be weighted courses as well, to fit into the students’ GPA.”
The board also approved the offering of a fall Driver’s Education class.
Street adds that elementary school students have seen a few changes this year, as well. “Our specials of PE, Music, Art, Computers, and Library are in the afternoon this year, and we changed a little recess, so our midday recess occurs before lunch,” he says. Principal Dan Zylstra told the school board the schedule change appears to be going well.
