The Eastern Pulaski School Board has adopted a budget for 2017, but the document still requires final state approval.
During a special session Monday night, school board members considered adopting several resolutions to pair with the budget. Included in that list is a capital project’s plan and bus replacement schedule.
In the past, Eastern Pulaski Schools has seen its proposed capital projects expenditures reduced. Superintendent Dan Foster says it is much less of a challenge in the coming year with more than $2-million in projects proposed. But, he says, it’s still something to note.
“To be honest with you, we still have a little concern with capital projects because of what transpired a couple of years ago with them saying, basically ‘you’re not getting a levy in this this year’ because you have excess funds already,” says Foster. “So there is some concern they may come back to us still and say this is better, but you need to reduce this more.”
The Eastern Pulaski School Corporation previously held a public hearing on the 2017 budget during its previous meeting.
According to the budget documents, the school corporation is planning for $8.8-million in its General Fund with about $1.1-million spent on transportation.
Now that the document has been accepted by the school board, it heads to the Department of Local Government Finance for tweaks and recommendations.
For a better response time to state requests for budgetary changes, the Eastern Pulaski School Board adopted a resolution Monday night allowing Foster to make the changes himself.
“It allows us the ability to reduce those allocations,” says Foster.
That will reduce the number of meetings it takes to finalize a budget and plan for the coming year.
The school board adopted each of the plans, unanimously.
