North Judson residents will have one more chance to weigh in on a proposed community center prior to the submission of a grant application for the project. A public hearing is scheduled tonight at 6 p.m. at the town hall. The grant application is due Friday.
If it’s approved, the grant would cover $500,000 of the estimated $840,000 project cost. Organizers of the project are also soliciting cash and in-kind donations in order to maximize grant points.
Several businesses and residents as well as the Town of North Judson have agreed to donate labor and materials. Additionally North Judson and Wayne Township each plan to contribute $12,500 to help acquire land north of the fire station for the project.
As of last week, $10,000 in monetary donations had been collected. Town officials were hoping to boost that amount to $20,000 before the application deadline in order to maximize grant points.
