Thanksgiving is a week away, and the experts at Butterball are once again standing by with advice for novice and veteran cooks. Carol from the Butterball Turkey Tip Line says it’s important to make sure you buy a big enough bird.
She says a pound and a half per person will provide enough for both generous holiday servings and leftovers for a few days.
It’s also important to give the turkey ample time to thaw.
Carol says most any size turkey can be purchased up to a week ahead of time, put on a tray, and slid into the refrigerator to thaw. She says it takes 24 hours to thaw every four pounds of turkey, which should be used within three to four days after it is completely thawed.
If refrigerator space is an issue, Carol recommends filling a cooler with ice for the temporary storage of condiments like ketchup, mustard and salad dressing. Find more tips online at www.Butterball.com or call their experts at 1-800-BUTTERBALL.
