A newly-elected state senator from Northwest Indiana recently took his oath of office. Republican Mike Bohacek of Michiana Shores replaces Democrat Jim Arnold of LaPorte, who did not run for reelection. Indiana’s 8th District includes portions of LaPorte, Starke and St. Joseph Counties.
Bohacek is one of nine new members of the Senate. Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush swore them all in on organization day.
“It’s an honor to represent the people of Senate District 8, and I will work hard to make sure I serve them well here in the State Senate. I am ready to start my first session, alongside my fellow legislators, and work toward making Indiana an even better place to live and work,” Bohacek said in a statement.
He is a two-term LaPorte County Commissioner and an enterprise consultant at Echo Global Logistics. Bohacek is also the owner of MSL Services Inc. in Michiana Shores.
He and his wife Melissa live in Michiana Shores and have three daughters, Lisa, Lucy and Stephanie.
Residents in Senate District 8 can contact Bohacek by telephone toll free at 800-382-9467 or 317-232-9400, by email at Senator.Bohacek@iga.in.gov or by mail at 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204. His virtual office can be found online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Bohacek.
The upcoming session is a budget year, meaning lawmakers will craft a comprehensive plan to fund state government services for the next two years. The 2017 legislative session will reconvene on Jan. 3, and, by law, must be completed no later than April 29.
