Starke County Public Library to Feature Yellowstone Trail Program

Yellowstone TrailTravel back in time during a special Wednesday night movie presentation at the Starke County Public Library in Knox.

The national film features the history of the Yellowstone Trail. It was the first trans-continental road, and it went through Hamlet on its route from Washington to Massachusetts. The road’s formation in the early 1900s was a grassroots effort of businessmen in little towns who wanted to boost their local economy by being on a good road. Often roads near railways were selected because they already utilized efficient routes.

Hamlet is featured in the film. In addition to the screening, Juanita Ketchum with the Yellowstone Trail Festival will share a presentation of the historical sites of the beginning of the trail as well as her visit to the National Organization Headquarters, where she met with John and Alice Ridge in Wisconsin.

The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. CST at the Starke County Public Library in Knox. Attendance is free, and Poppin’ Off Popcorn is supplying popcorn.
