The Winamac Police Department will have a new patrol car on the road soon. Chief Mike Buchanan told the town council this week the insurance company totaled the 2016 car that was involved in a recent wreck. The emergency radio equipment has been stripped from the old car and is ready to put into the new one.
The town’s only cost for the car is the $1,000 deductible, as insurance covered the entire replacement cost.
Buchanan also told the council the 2014 and 2012 Dodge Chargers recently underwent warranty repairs and are in good shape.
Also, the department recently received new equipment, including portable breath tests, radar units, digital cameras, lights for pistols and lock-out kids. Rifles are on order and should be in by the end of the year.
