The Town of Winamac plans to make some sidewalk repairs with money left over from its paving projects. Town Manager Brad Zellers told the town council Monday the paving bill came in about $18,000 less than what the contractor had bid, since less material was needed than originally thought. “I think we’re going to have about $30,000 left to use,” he said, “and if I can find some bad sidewalks along those streets that we’d identified as our project area, we can just redo those.”
He says the sidewalk work will likely take place in the spring, along with some seal coat work. Zellers noted that the town has until next summer to use its grant money. However, some sidewalk repairs have already taken place, where trees have been removed along the highways.
Also during Monday’s special meeting, the town council approved the purchase of a leaf vac from Best Equipment. The company submitted the low bid of $48,750. Earlier this year, the town announced plans to pay for the leaf machine with money received as part of the state’s special distribution of Local Option Income Tax funds.
